surfing in Ireland

I've been coming across a lot of press on Irish surfing lately. Obviously its been happening forever, but surfing isn't necessarily the first thing people would think of when you mention Ireland. Pints, music, rain, green landscape maybe, but not surfing. This will soon change as you'll see from the video's below; the waves on the west coast of Ireland are definitely something to talk about. For those who do decide to give it a go, I'd say you'd need to have a thick wet suit and a good set of "balls".

We are coming to the tail end of our selling season and BOY does it ever feel good! This FW10, we laughed, we cried, we packed, unpacked, priced, repriced, showed and sold and we traveled.... planes, trains and automobiles.

Since we're approaching the most exciting day of all days, 'St. patricks day' and considering I have a pre St. Paddy's day buzz, I thought it was only fitting that I pay some attention to one of Ireland's most infamous pieces of clothing, the wool sweater. The Aran Island sweater is said by some to be woven into every irish being. This historic sweater has become a global 'must have' this FW especially now with the special attention made to heritage clothing in our industry.

Historically, this sweater has been linked to each Irish clan and their identity. Each clan/family had/has their own knit specific to them. The knit patterns are so family specific that, the aran island sweater was used to help identify fishermen washed up on land after an unfortunate accident at sea.

Each knit sweater contains over 100 000 stitches hand-knit by rare and talented knitters. It can take over 60 days of work to complete one piece. It is not a surprise that they are a highly sought out piece of clothing.

Ann - Sofie Back's in-season collection, which is a part of Cheap Mondays SS10 collection, features 28 items and accessories that can be categorized into the following themes: duct tape, stylised whiskers and cut out.

Classic Cheap Monday denim and fashion is found with such detailing as whiskers, rips and holes. Dominating colours are denim blue, black and different shades of grey.

The duct tape theme is recognized through a consistently used duct tape print. It features skirt, dress, sweatshirt, jeans, tank tops, t-shirts and tights. Colours are black, white, olive and different shades of grey.

I will definitely have the following pieces in my closet.

Cheap Monday has its own space!

Last November Cheap Monday opened their first shop in the lovely city of Copenhagen. I had the pleasure of visiting the shop with Cheap Monday "domestic and international" during our sales meeting in December.

All materials used in the shop completely fit the Cheap Monday styling and aesthetic and the product never looked so good! The shop is just another example of how the brand is growing strongly and sticking true to its roots.

We finished the tour off with a few festive bevies. Always a pleasure hanging with the CM crew. It was a great start to the evening.

Ya Ya i know Christmas is done and dusted but another selling season is just upon us. The list of things to do on my desk seems to be getting longer and longer by the minute. Unpacking and packing of collections, receiving lists, pricing, merchandising, booking appts, organizing travel and the obvious, sales. While you never think you'll get through it all, we always do. Hitting the road with our complete showroom is always the highlight! and no i'm not being sarcastic.
